Bimetal thermometers consist of two rolled metal strips that are wound into a coil. While the one end of the coil is fixed, the rotatable thermometer pointer is at the other end. Bimetal means two different metals for example brass and iron that expand by a different amount in heat. This has the effect that the metal strips bend to the passive side of the bi-metal with the lower heat coefficient with increasing temperature. When there is a temperature drop, the pointer rotates into the opposite direction. The degree of bending is determined by the temperature that can be read on the thermometer.
Where are bimetal thermometers used?
Bimetal thermometers are used in different areas and situations They are used both in liquids and gases and withstand explosion-hazardous areas of zones 1 and 2.
