The thermoplastic polycarbonate is characterised by many positive properties that make the material very well-suited for control cabinets. One important property is the high impact resistance of the hard material. It is also corrosion and weather resistant. The use of UV-stabilised polycarbonate means that the control cabinets are also UV resistant. As a result of these properties, polycarbonate control cabinets (in comparison to sheet steel cabinets) are particularly well-suited for outdoor use or for installation in harsh environments. Other advantages include their durability and the fact that they are almost completely maintenance-free.

The polycarbonate is very light, on acccount of which the control cabinets weigh around just half of what similar designs made from sheet metal weigh. This facilitates transport and, in particular, the mounting of the control cabinets. Openings such as cable bushing systems can be made without any problem using a conical drill, and can, for the most part, be realised directly during mounting. Here, earthing as with sheet metal enclosures is not necessary.
